In 1922, Oskar Schlemmer's "Triadic Ballet" premiered in Stuttgart and caused horror and euphoria. 100 years later, it is world-famous and the fascination for the extraordinary world of ideas of the Bauhaus artist continues. The Staatsgalerie remains deeply committed to the legacy of Oskar Schlemmer. Our art archive contains the artist's written estate and our collection includes his largest coherent body of work, which also includes seven figurines from the "Triadic Ballet". To this day, Stuttgart is probably the most important place for Oskar Schlemmer.
Exhibition Installations by Ulla von Brandenburg, Kalin Lindena and Haegue Yang
The 100th anniversary is an occasion for us to look at the "Triadic Ballet" from the present. The three internationally renowned artists Ulla von Brandenburg, Kalin Lindena and Haegue Yang are invited to refer to Schlemmer's ideas with large-scale works and to question his meaning today. Visitors can expect expansive installations that will be an experience to wander through. At the same time, the exhibition provides selective insights into the historical cosmos of the "Triadic Ballet" and its reception up to the present day.
The exhibition is under the patronage of Winfried Kretschmann, Minister President of the State of Baden-Württemberg.

Dance and Performance Festival Body of the Present
30.9. – 9.10.2022
Where do we stand today in relation to our image of man, which Oskar Schlemmer perceived as "machine-man" in 1922? And how visionary can art be in times of social upheaval? Based on the utopian potential of the "Triadic Ballet", we will explore these current and historical questions in our own dance and performance festival, which will take place in cooperation with the independent dance scene in Stuttgart's urban space.
