Restoration
Preservation and research
As the largest art museum in Baden-Württemberg, we employ specialists in the restoration of paper, photography, painting, sculpture and media art. Our conservators make an important contribution to the preservation of our works of art. This work requires a high level of expertise in materials, artistic techniques and scientific examination methods. To this end, the team has at its disposal, among other things, a digital X-ray system, an infrared camera and, for microscopic examinations, a high-resolution research microscope.
The work areas include preventive conservation, for example in the form of regular condition checks and optimisation of storage, packaging and presentation conditions, restoration and research.
Through the sponsorship of the Wüstenrot Stiftung, various aspects of the practical work are made visible to visitors in the Schauatelier through selected restoration projects.
