Staged, provocative, taboo-breaking, violent – the works by the artist couple Uwe Lausen and Heide Stolz were unparalleled in the 1960s. They originated at a time in which a new generation of young artists shook off the yoke of outdated conventions with unprecedented vehemence. Uwe Lausen (1941-1970) was born in Stuttgart, while Heide Stolz (1939-1985) grew up in Kupferzell, some 60 kilometres north of Stuttgart. They met in Munich, married and started a family. Working both singly and in a fruitful exchange with each other, they created a body of work that is marked by strong opposition to German post-war society. With a selection of his paintings and works on paper as well as her photographs, the exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of Uwe Lausen’s death and is the first comprehensive survey to showcase this remarkable artist couple in Lausen’s hometown of Stuttgart.

The exhibition is organised in cooperation with the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz – Museum Gunzenhauser.
