The presentation of drawings and prints ranges from Nicolas Guibal to Bernhard Pankok. Nicolas Guibal (1725–1784) taught at the Académie des Arts and served as both court painter and director of the ducal gallery in Ludwigsburg Castle. Bernhard Pankok (1872–1943), founder of the teaching and experimentation workshops of the Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Fine and Applied Arts), designed stage sets for the Stuttgart opera house as well as frames and interior decorations today no longer extant for the Staatsgalerie.
The exhibition is the Staatsgalerie’s contribution to the 2011 anniversary celebration of the Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, which was established 250 years ago as the Académie des Arts.
