The 2014 Large State Exhibition will pay tribute to the multifaceted oeuvre of the Bauhaus artist of Stuttgart, which encompasses all forms of painting as well as sculpture, stage art and more. A body of work that is exceptional in its incomparable breadth and conceptual depth, Schlemmer's oeuvre has not been featured in Germany in as comprehensive a presentation for thirtyseven years. In addition to a large number of paintings, sculptures, works on paper and original costumes, hitherto unpublished documents will also convey Schlemmer's artistic vision. The artist's conception of the human being as the “measure of all things” was unique at the Bauhaus in his day. He attributed to art the power to effect the creation of a new world.
