... in 'The Gällery – Space for Photography'

To start off, 'The Gällery – Space for Photography' will be exploring the theme of spatial experiences from 25 February 2022. In the exhibition 'body|spaces', numerous positions of international photographers show the role that the medium of photography has played over the last thirty years in the exploration of space as a body and in the creation of new spatial experiences.

On display are works by Teresa Hubbard / Alexander Birchler, Candida Höfer, John Coplans, Tata Ronkholz, Clegg & Guttmann, Ute Mahler, Wolfgang Tillmans, Rineke Dijkstra and Thomas Ruff.

Why 'body|spaces' now of all times, in the middle of the new wave?

Especially in a time that is at the end point of a series of lockdowns, social distance regulations and restrictions on movement, we have had to build a whole new relationship to those spaces in which we move or, on the contrary, in which movement is no longer possible. With the opening exhibition of our 'Gällery', we therefore trace (real as well as fantastic) spatial experiences that the medium of photography makes visible for us. Which spaces convey a feel of expansion, which ones constrict us? Which places inspire us to move freely, and which ones channel us or close us off? There has never been a more appropriate time than today to consider that delicate relationship between our bodies and the space that surrounds us, now that we are in danger of losing some of the self-evidence for this relationship.
