in the Kunstgebäude at Schlossplatz

Beschreibung

Beginning on February 19, 2027, and throughout the museum’s renovation period, the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart will present its outstanding twentieth-century collection in the Kunstgebäude Stuttgart at Schlossplatz.

Arranged in strict chronological order by decade, this interim presentation brings together paintings and sculptures that are being shown side by side in this way for the first time. The result offers fresh perspectives on the collection. The distinctive spaces of the Kunstgebäude are transformed into “time capsules”, where visitors can experience the highlights of each decade from 1900 to 1970.

The presentation vividly illustrates the connections between historical events and artistic production, while reexamining key moments in history through the lens of contemporary questions. Original works shed light on provenance research, the history of the Staatsgalerie’s collection, and the underrepresentation of women artists in the museum’s holdings–even well into the twentieth century.

Look forward to your masterpieces! “Simply the Best!” features works by Pablo Picasso, Max Beckmann, Oskar Schlemmer, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Maria Lassnig, Amedeo Modigliani, and many others.
