in THE GÄLLERY – Raum für Fotografie
With »BÄNG!«, the Staatsgalerie spotlights the work of five women artists: Yoko Ono (born 1933), Yvonne Rainer (born 1934), VALIE EXPORT (1940–2026), Carolee Schneemann (1939–2019), and Charlotte Moorman (1933–1991). What makes these women’s work so distinctive is their radical approach to art.
The exhibition features more than 100 historical photographs documenting eccentric actions, legendary performances, and choreographies from the 1960s and 1970s. Featuring works from the Sohm Archive, the exhibition traces a path from the Neo-Avant-Garde in the Rhineland to the art scenes in New York and Vienna. In doing so, the exhibition specifically explores the connection between performance art and photography.
