in THE GÄLLERY – Raum für Fotografie
With “BÄNG!,” the Staatsgalerie shines a spotlight on the work of five female artists: Yoko Ono (b. 1933), Yvonne Rainer (b. 1934), VALIE EXPORT (1940–2026), Carolee Schneemann (1939–2019), and Charlotte Moorman (1933–1991). What makes these women’s work so unique is their radical approach to art. The exhibition features more than 100 historical photographs of eccentric actions, legendary performances, and choreographies from the 1960s through the 1970s. Featuring works from the Sohm Archive, the exhibition traces a path from the Neo-Avant-Garde in the Rhineland to the art scenes in New York and Vienna. In doing so, the exhibition specifically explores the connection between performance art and photography.
