Tour through the museum

The heart of the museum is the Alte Staatsgalerie, which was designed both as a place for the contemplation of art in keeping with the ideas of the Enlightenment and also as an art academy. The Neue Staatsgalerie has been conceived and designed to epitomize the public museum and its architecture offers the visitor an aesthetic experience in its own right. The emphasis of the new addition to the Alte Staatsgalerie is on functional utility and pure fulfillment of the functions required by a modern museum.
