Hermann Pleuer (1863-1911) investigated the world of the railway in a manner virtually unparalleled in his day. He documented this symbol of “modern” life as well as its consequences for the city and the countryside from a wide range of perspectives. The year 2011 marks the hundredth anniversary of the death of an artist often referred to as the chief exponent of “Swabian Impressionism”. On this occasion, the Staatsgalerie is presenting a selection of its rich collection of drawings by Pleuer on the subject of the railway.
